RELAXATION therapy may extend the life of cancer patients, a study indicated today. Psychologists who evaluated its effects on 63 patients with two types of blood cancer found that those who solely received chemotherapy treatment did not survive as long as those who also received relaxation therapy.

CANCER patients who learn to relax live longer, a study has found.

Psychologists monitored 63 blood-cancer patients for more man a decade after teaching some of them how to fight stress.

Those who had relaxation therapy survived an average of eight years and eight months, almost a year longer than those just treated with chemotherapy.

Patients who ALSO got hypnotherapy survived even longer - an average of 10.5 years, the British Psychological Society heard in Glasgow yesterday.
